Overview
An interactive digital experience helping youth explore screen-sector careers through a dynamic quiz, filterable job explorer, and pathways to education and training.
The Challenge
Reel Canada partnered with NBC Universal, the Directors Guild of Canada, and other industry supporters to address a growing talent gap in Canada’s screen sector. The goal: create an engaging, youth-friendly digital hub that helped 16–24-year-olds understand the full range of film, TV, and digital production careers—and discover which path was right for them.
As Senior Producer, I led the development of an interactive “career discovery” experience anchored by a personality-driven quiz and a comprehensive job-explorer tool. Users could browse a library of screen-industry roles presented as animated, filterable cards—each featuring a custom icon, key responsibilities, quick stats, and links to more detailed job profiles. These deep-dive pages included training pathways, required skills, personal attributes, career prospects, and real-world applications.
The filters were intentionally designed for youth decision-making patterns—allowing users to sort careers by strengths (leadership, organization, tactile skills), preferred work styles (collaborative vs. independent), or personal traits. The wider platform connected learners to workshops, resources, schools, and in-person training opportunities, creating a full discovery-to-action pipeline.
My Role
- Director of Production overseeing concept, UX, content, design, and development
- Led a multi-disciplinary team creating quiz logic, job taxonomy, and interactive card system
- Oversaw accessibility, testing, and iteration cycles
- Ensured narrative alignment, visual cohesion, and technical feasibility
Outcome
Reel Opportunities is a compelling workforce-development tool that demystifies the screen industry, empowers youth to explore creative futures, and supports Canada’s long-term talent pipeline with clear, engaging, and actionable career pathways.
